Our Mission: Burnaby Community Scene was an organization

established by immigrants for immigrants. As immigrants, we

know how hard it is to adapt to a new environment with different

cultures, customs, languages and lifestyles. As a result, we

founded this organization with a mission focusing on helping

immigrants adopt a life in Canada.

Canadians are more accepting of immigrants

A Welcome to Canada sign (Thevenot, 2020)

What we do: We organize and offer support groups. This way,

newly arrived immigrants will have the opportunity to meet and

greet others and make friends. Each support group also

includes a mentor, a former immigrant that has fully adapted to

life in Canada and can offer tips and advice. This organization

also hosts events and talks to discuss important and relevant

issues. In the past, we’ve talked about ways to improve mental

health, depression, and how to handle culture shock. English

classes are also offered.

Our history: Burnaby Community Scene started off as a small

group chat on the social media website We Chat. Back then,

this organization consisted mainly of a small group of friends

dedicated to helping new immigrants. Since then, Burnaby

Community Scene has become a much more established group

where we are able to offer support groups and host events and

talks. Looking ahead towards the future, we hope we will be

able to help immigrants of all cultures and languages adapt,

and make our community more diverse and multicultural.
